10 Ways to Use Washi Tape Not on Scrapbook Layouts

10/19/2019

Let’s all just admit it, collecting washi tape is a hobby of itself.  But at some point, the washi tape begins to take over and it’s time to figure out some different uses for all that fun paper tape!  I’ve found some great ways to use washi tape that doesn’t include scrapbook layouts or cards. Hopefully you will find a project or two that you can make to use up some more of your washi tape.  Check out all 10 ideas below.

1. Washi Tape Swatches

If you have a very large Washi Tape collection and want to keep track of the patterns easily, check out this awesome bullet journal layout by Diary of a Journal Planner.  It looks even cuter with the layout that looks like nail polish bottles. So maybe this isn’t a way to “use” your washi tape, but what a great way to organize your washi tape so you can see your collection!

2. How to Fold an Envelope with Washi Tape Trim

This tutorial is easy and quick from Gathering Beauty, but the results are so pretty!  Using washi tape to line the edges of an envelope makes it look extra special. And what a great way to use up some washi tape when you give someone a card.  Maybe even try to use washi tape to coordinate on the card or letter.

3. Kaleidoscope Kids Craft using Washi Tape

This kids craft project from Darcy and Brian is so much fun!  And what a great way to get kids involved in a craft project. (You know they are always asking to use our craft supplies – at least mine asks all the time.)  The washi tape is a fun way for them to decorate this project or any project you work on together!

4. Washi Tape Twist Ties

Making washi tape into twist ties is brilliant and would be a great way to make treat bags look pretty for any holiday or special occasion.  Check out the tutorial on how to make these twist ties with washi tape on Tikkido’s blog.

5. Washi Tape Barrettes

If you’ve got little girls in your family or you like to wear barrettes in your hair, then this is the tutorial for you.  I was skeptical at first, but the We Heart This blog adds a protective layer to the barrette and washi tape so that it will last.

6. Candle Gift with Washi Tape Covered Matches

This tutorial on the Dukes and Ducchesses blog is a quick way to use washi tape for a gift.  Wrapping matchbooks and match boxes to go along with the candle gift is such a cute idea! Check out the post for more on this project.

7. Easy Decorated Plasticware with Washi Tape

When I saw this tutorial from Tikkido, I thought to myself, “why didn’t I think of doing this before?!”  What a fun way to jazz up plain plasticware utensils for a party using washi tape!

8. DIY Travel Tic Tac Toe

This is such a cute idea to create an on-the-go Tic-Tac-Toe board by Drug Store Divas.  Granted, it won’t use a ton of washi tape, but what a fun little gift this would make as well.

9. Washi Tape Chalkboard

This tutorial by Dukes and Ducchesses uses washi tape as the background to create your own chalkboard.  It’s a fun tutorial, but picking out the right washi tape colors is important.

10. DIY Coaster Gift Set using Washi Tape

From a Bride On A Budget, check out this tutorial on how to make a customized coaster gift set using washi tape.  She even made a coordinating tray to go with the coasters. This one uses a ton of washi tape, so this would be great for those coordinating packs of washi tape.

Other Uses for Washi Tape

As you can see, and as I’ve found, the uses for washi tape are endless.  These projects are all great ways to use up that (massive) stash of washi tape you have.

If all of your scrapbooking supplies are overwhelming you, then it’s time to do something about it.  Check out this post about how to use up your scrapbook stash in 3 simple steps. Follow these tips to help get everything in control in your craft space.

I’ve been using my washi tape to hold my cricut vinyl on the roll once you open it . It doesn’t leave a mark on the vinyl when you peel it off like tape would!
